PERMITS: This event is held in accordance with permits from the U.S. Forest Service, George Washington National Forest, Pedlar Ranger District as well as some Private Land. Please respect and care for the land that this event is held on to help ensure the future of this event.
START/FINISH LOCATION: The MMTR is a point-to-point race.
Start Location: Lynchburg NW/Blue Ridge Parkway 6252 Elon Rd, Monroe, VA 24574
Finish Location: Camp Blue Ridge, 529 Old Mill Rd. Montebello, VA 24464, (540) 446-1583, (http://campblueridge.org).
TRANSPORTATION: Because this is a point to point race, bus transportation (leaving at 4:15am) is provided for the runners from Camp Blue Ridge to the race start. The awards dinner will take place at Camp Blue Ridge. The buses will also meet you at Long Mtn. Aid Station (#8, 26.49 miles) and at the finish. Because this year’s race will center around Camp Blue Ridge as the race headquarters bus transportation will be provided at no cost for all runners requesting it. SEATING IS LIMITED (and fuel is expensive), so make sure to specify whether you will need a bus seat along with your entry fee.
All runners will need to utilize the bus service unless you have a crew transporting you to the race start.
For each registered runner, your entry fee includes eligibility for numerous draw prizes, bus transportation if required, a drop bag service, aid stations, discounted pre-race dinner, discounted post-race awards dinner, race shirt, finisher's awards, and a special award to all qualified category finishers.
THERE WILL BE NO REFUND OR TRANSFER OF ENTRY FEES. PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR A REFUND OR TRANSFER or, as my buddy Luis Escobar of Born to Run Ultra Marathons in California likes to put it: "Finally - please remember that there will be NO refunds - NO transfers - NO exceptions. Do not ask for a refund or a transfer to another date or event - the answer is a polite, no. There will be no refunds even if your cat ate your homework or your dog ate your cat or your grandmother ran over your dog or your grandfather ran over your grandmother or you can't find a babysitter or your girlfriend is cheating on you or you are cheating on your girlfriend or you get shot in the head during an unfortunate piñata incident, of if you become injured or if you don't have time to train or if you contract poison oak, syphilis, herpes simplex, chapped lips, the heart break of psoriasis or any other communicable decease or you get bit by a lizard, you have a hangover or you got shot in the neck with a poison dart or your trailer gets destroyed by a tornado or you get deported or your daughter gets married, or any other reason - your registration will not, under any circumstances, no way, no how, ain't gonna happen, be refunded. Comprende? Don't like that idea? Don't register."
CORRECT SIZING FOR RACE CLOTHING CANNOT BE GUARANTEED TO THOSE WHO ENTER AFTER SEPTEMBER 1 or any OVERFLOW ENTRIES
Entrant Scholarships: A limited amount of entrant scholarships are available to those who express a financial constraint to entering the MMTR. For example, this is intended for full-time students and/or those who (because of financial constraints) would otherwise not be able to enter. You must email me to inquire eligibility. Please do not abuse this policy or attempt to provide false information. Verification may be required.
COURSE: Beginning at the KOA Campground, runners proceed onto Pera Rd. and cover a short road section (approx. 1.5 miles) before entering National Forest land. The course then meanders northward over various dirt and gravel roads in the National Forest before runners have to negotiate the second half of the course. Leaving Long Mountain aid station, the second half includes dirt & old logging roads as well as several miles of beautiful single track trail. Many say the race is just beginning when you leave Long Mtn. Upon reaching the last aid station at Porters Ridge, runners course downhill for 3.5 miles toward the finish at Camp Blue Ridge. The entire MMTR course traverses some of the most beautiful areas in the Blue Ridge right around peak fall foliage.
National Geographic Map #789 (Lexington / Blue Ridge Mts.) is the best topographic map for the area.
AID STATIONS: Fourteen (12) fully-stocked aid stations are at 1 to 7 mile intervals throughout the race. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO BRING A CREW! If you ride the bus, drop bags will be available at Long Mountain aid station (mile 23.49) and at the finish line. Runners are responsible for reclaiming their own drop bag(s) during and/or after the event. eco-x is not responsible for lost or damaged drop bags or the contents therein.
CREWS & PACERS: Crew access is limited to the following aid stations: 2,3,6,7,9,10,11, & 12. The only place crews are allowed to drive on the race course itself is from aid station 9 to 10. Pacers are generally discouraged but tolerated for those who have a special need; as determined by the race director. However, if you expect to vie for a place in the top ten (men or women) pacers are NOT allowed; you could jeopardize your top-ten place by having a pacer.
CUT-OFF TIME: 12 hour time limit! The entire course will be officially closed at 12-hrs. Aid station cut-off times will allow a 10-minute flex before Long Mountain Wayside (mile 23.49). Including Long Mountain Wayside and after all aid stations cut-off times will be strictly enforced (if you are over the time limit, you must stop). There will be no time allowance from Long Mountain Wayside to the finish.

Both Pre and Post Race events will be held in Montebello this year, camping and cabins are both available for rent at the camp - please reserve your rooms through Eco-X, the camp will not be taking reservations. Camp Blue Ridge in Montebello, VA (http://www.campblueridge.org)
Our home base for MMTR was selected to make pre-race and race day logistics even more seamless and comfortable. With Camp Blue Ridge as the finish location for MMTR this year, you'll only have one location to keep in mind when planning your pre-race schedule. You'll have the ability to park on-site, a bus will take you to the starting point and you won't have to travel back to another location once you've finished. On site at Camp Blue Ridge, you'll have the option of staying in a bunk, renting a cabin for the team or opting for tent camping. Because bunk and cabin space is limited, we ask that you make reservations for your accommodations while registering for the race. Bunk and cabin space is on a first-come basis, so register early to guarantee a spot. There will be a select number of male only, female only, and mixed cabins.
Bunks will be assigned at race check-in, with individual cabins designated for males or females. There is no guarantee that you'll be able to room with a friend if you only select a bunk space. Runners will have the option of booking multiple bunks on the registration page.
To room with a friend, you have the option of renting an entire cabin, but you must do so with 12 other people to fill the entire cabin. Or, you and your friend have the option of tent camping the night before the race to guarantee spots together.
Each cabin is split into two sides and each side has 3 bunks, 1 queen bed and a bathroom/shower, with a shared kitchenette space between the two cabin sides. Linens aren't provided, so come prepared with either a sleeping bag, foam mat or sheets. If you choose to tent camp the night before, keep in mind that now power or sewer is provided, but you will have access to Camp Blue Ridge's showers post-race.
For those riding the buses, race participants will leave Camp Blue Ridge at 4:15 AM and travel to the start of the race. It is about 36 miles to the start. You MUST CHECK-IN at the START LINE to be an official entrant or you can check in on the bus while you are traveling to the start. The race will finish at Camp Blue Ridge where the meal and awards ceremony will be held on Saturday night.
Runners can pick up their race packet & number from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM on Friday at the Camp Blue Ridge in Montebello.
Held at Camp Blue Ridge, on Friday night from 6:00-7:00 PM. Come and enjoy the homecoming atmosphere at our pre-race dinner! Numerous draw prizes will be given out on Friday night!
There will be a pre-race briefing at 7:00 PM for all runners.
After the race at Camp Blue Ridge (same place as the pre-race meal) beginning at 7:00 PM & awards beginning at approx. 7:30pm. There will be some cabins available for non-campers to utilize shower facilities at the finish.
AWARDS: All sub-12 hour finishers will receive a special finisher's award. The overall male and female winners will receive the Mountain Masochist Trophy. The top 10 male and female finishers will receive special awards. Also, special awards will be presented to the first place male and female masters (40-49), grand masters (50-59) and super masters (60 and over).
** Please note that Race Registrations after September 15 may not be guaranteed a finisher award in their size.**
AWARDS CEREMONY: Finishing awards will be presented to runners at the finish line. Special awards will be presented at the post-race dinner beginning around 7:30 PM. NO AWARDS WILL BE MAILED.
