Mountain Masochist Trail Run
Started in 1983, the MMTR has earned its reputation for being one of the “best trail races in the east”. The 50 mile course itself is a physically challenging combination of roads, jeep trails, and single track that can cause even the most experienced runner to breathe a sigh of relief at the finish line in Montebello, VA. Ample aid stations and tried and true organization makes the race a perfect first 50 miler. However, you must train hard for this race; you must train yourself physically, mentally, and maybe even spiritually if you want to accomplish something truly remarkable!
BEAST & LUS NoticeThe MMTR is event #5 in the Beast Series and the last of the 4 LUS events.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING MMTR 2020
As you are aware the Corona Virus shutdown has affected many races and many businesses, Montebello Campground and Country Store has been a long-time supporter of MMTR, this year they will be assisting us in hosting the race activities. Montebello Campground has unfortunately had to shut down for a good portion of their season due to the mandatory shutdown. We’d like to assist them any way we can – therefore any pre-race camping reservations should be made directly with Camp Montebello. If you would like to camp the night before the race please contact the Montebello Camp ground starting June 1st to make your reservations (540)377-2650. The race date this year is Saturday November 7th.
PRE AND POST RACE HEADQUARTERS
This year Montebello Campground (15072 Crabtree Falls Hwy. Montebello, VA 24464) will be hosting the pre-race and post-race activities. Montebello Campground and country store is located on Rt 56.
Camp Montebello has been the historic finish for MMTR in the past so many of you veteran runners will be familiar. This will influence the end of the race, as you come down past the Fish Hatchery Road, you’ll take a left onto 56 (DO NOT GO STRAIGHT ACROSS THE ROAD). You’ll run down 56 and finish at the Montebello Camp Ground entrance. Just like the old days.
Bus transportation will leave from the Montebello Camp Store at 4:15 AM on Saturday Morning.
As usual the race will begin at the Blue Ridge KOA. If you would like to consider supporting them by camping before the race please contact them directly (434) 299-5228. You get the added benefit of sleeping in, but you’ll need to arrange to get back here after the race. They require a 2 night minimum stay. NO TRANSPORTATION WILL BE PROVIDED BY THE RACE.
